She looks up at the stars with hopeful eyes
And wonders how the kids are doing
They don’t call much anymore
No-one’s there to see here cry
It’s just as well she thinks
She wouldn’t want that anyway
Lines of life etched deeply
on a face that's seen it all
She still hears their laughter
echo through that big old house
And silence overcomes her
when she turns out the light
Alone with just
her memories tonight
Sunday morning service she arrives
And sits up in the front row
Just like she always has
Forty-years ago today he died
The only man she ever loved
They promised they’d grow old together
Lines of love are showing
With the heartache and the pain
She fights her tears and prays
they’ll be together once again
She vows when she gets home
that she won’t turn out the lights
and be alone with just
her memories tonight
The papers pile up outside her door
No-ones’ seen her for awhile now
Nobody seems to care
People are so caught up anymore
That’s just the way it is
Nobody gives a damn
The lines of life were cut away
When no one took the time
or reached out with open arms
To see if she was doing allright
And I guess her prayers were answered
'Cause she didn’t turn out the light
She's not alone with just
her memories tonight

I haven't been to your den in a while (no excuses) but I've missed reading your work. The lyrics to this song are a sad indictment of a common human condition. How sad that people don't look beyond their own needs and see the need in others. So often people pretend concern when their only motivation is how good it makes them feel. It is clear to me that you are more than just a regular guy. You have great deal of sensitivity. May you never be changed by success...
