There’s a war outside that rages
and turns the night to day
The blood-soaked sand
of a ravaged land
covers centuries of hate

There are fools inside praying
Immersed in their own pain
Pompous in delusion
they march on
toward the end

There’s no future in the ancient words
of dogma and division
only death
and burning flesh
that paves the way to heaven

But our world will keep on turning
freedom will survive
Kids will grow
they'll have their own
and know the joy of life
People will keep learning
Mistakes will still be made
Rivers will still flow
Workers will be paid

There’s a war inside that rages
in the hearts and minds of all
who see the light
behind the strife
between the lines of fault

I like this write.
Reminds me of myself.
It's strange when someone dies or is born. all the rage and loathing and pain that you go through the happiness and joy and love you feel, then you look at a stranger and they have no idea what is going on. You get the feeling that your whole life is changing and a huge impact is comming but no one knows but you.
It's a wierd feeling. This poem reminds me of that.
Great write!

You wrote this poem in such a short time but with so much feeling. It is a superbly written piece and I agree with much that you've written. You and I differ when it comes to the fundamentals but can agree that religion is often the cause of conflict and war. I believe it has nothing to do with the religion per se, but in the interpretation of religion and this has everything to do with people and little to do with God. I know that in spite of your resistance to religion, you do believe in God and that, in my mind, is all that matters.

Gloom and doom is what I read, hear and see in the mass media when believing in ourselves is why we face tomorrow. We true believers know that war is historic and belief can make all things change...even war.
This is a exceptional pen. I am treasuring it as a masterpiece.
Thank you for a peaceful heartbeat.

I like this. Upliifting, in the face of all the naysayers around us, and of whom I have even voice my own dark gloom of the days we find outself in. I like this. Uplifting.

So much truth is bound in these sagacious and insightful words Ed, excellent piece.

Interesting viewpoints expressed here Edwin, yes we are fortunate that here in our countries we get to watch our kids grow and have families. As I look on in sadness at the innocent kids being slaughtered around the world though I feel guilty that we are so fortunate. I don't have the answers but I wonder how long we can sit comfortably at home before taking a serious stand. Anyway good write my friend.
