Sarah never realized
the souls she tried to save
were pieces of her own
that were stole away
Seeking refuge from her slumber
she danced naked through her dreams
and woke up to a nightmare
in a place she’d never been

On the edge of disillusion,
inside the darkest realm,
she reached for fate
to free the weight
that held her in its spell

Those who looked upon her
were blinded by it all
Caught up in their own image
never thinking they would fall
For the songs that they were hearing
were all inside their minds
Self-righteous in a sickness
that had turned them blind

Through arid shifting hues
of an early golden sky,
upon the ground
their shadow’s sound
was much louder than her cry

The world that she did live in
of loving smiles and light,
reflected clouded colours
and her day
soon turned to night
For those who looked upon her
were like maggots who did feed
with psychotic desperation
and masks of twisted need

Proclaiming faith, they raised their shields
toward the sun that left them cold
Sheltered by the ignorance
of much less nurtured souls

Those who stood beside her
were muted and not heard
stripped of respect
with no regret
for open honest words

Sarah was once trusting
Love was all she gave
Now the maggots
whither in her truth
and she’ll dance
upon their graves

An accomplished and lyrical write Edwin, with subject matter and imagery that haunts. The flow is easy and the ryhthms so strong that it is easy to ride with this ballad. And you sketch a personality that is so rich and deep that she holds our hearts and our attention for longer than the duration of the poem. We/I am left deeply satisfied by this tale, thank you, Kate xx

Yet Sarah still stands alone amongst the nonbelievers of this world.
Such a sad tale indeed.

Be safe,
Karen

Dear Edwin,

Masterfully composed, so much truth in those words. Maggots can only thrive in darkness, cast out the night and allow the sunshine to stream eternally bright!

Hugs and love

This one is like a song in itself, can almost feel Dylans presence or hear his voice singing it in a smokey haze of midnight. Good to see you posting again Edwin.

Hey Cuddles,

I relate to Sarah in so many ways. ;) I know this was inspired by what we've been exposed to recently. However, it's not for me to discuss the meaning but rather to comment upon the creative attributes of the poem.

Excellent metaphors and superb imagery my darling. I am always in awe of your creative genius.

PS: I'd rather 'dance' on the beach with you at sunset with the carefree ebullience of a child ;)

From Dante's world, a picture of truths and lies, of faith and hopes being consumed or try to by desperation maggots.
A somber, yet and non-equivocal poem.
