My Dad was the kinda guy who gave it all in life, who believed in the future, and that the underdog could soar with the eagle. He loved this country, his family, and his friends. He was the kinda guy that would,on occasion, bring a bum home for dinner (not that mom was ever too keen on that), put the poor guy up in a hotel and find him some work to get him back on his feet. He truly made a difference in the lives of all the people he touched and I am honored to be his son. He is my hero.
In Africa, In France, Germany and Italy you fought for other's freedoms against brutal tryanny
You always helped the downtrodden and stood up for the little guy With a knowing smile and firm handshake and so much wisdom in your eyes
You were dashing and so talented Your voice rang strong and sure The audiences loved you and you always left them wanting more
You taught me how to pitch and catch even coached my football team You cheered me every wrestling match and showed me I could live my dreams
You guided me through tough times when my life was just a mess and would finally let me beat you after hours of playing chess ;)
You will always be my hero Dad The best friend that I ever had and I miss you since you've gone away So, here's a toast to you on this bittersweet memorial day
I miss you so much Dad

Your poem is very heartwarming and touching to the soul. Many more should honor their fathers, as you did yours. I am sure he is very proud to have you as his son. Nicely done!!!!!!!!!!!

So few appreciate and love their parents..You obviously adored your Dad..wonderful!
Cuddles,
I don't know what words to use to express how much this beautiful tribute to your dad touched me. I only wish I had been able to meet him. Fortunately, in getting to know you, I've discovered so many of his characteristics that you describe here. Few know of your tender heart and your love of people. I do and it's one of the many things I love about you. I believe your dad looks down upon you with great pride and love. If I could I'd thank him for bringing such an incredible human being into this world and into my life. What would I do without you?

Edwin,
This touched my heart. I lost my own Dad many years ago and I know the pain. Memories keep them alive in our hearts, Edwin. I especially liked the part where he'd bring bums home for a good meal, and he'd help them get back on their feet. If only people in today's society would do that! Many are looked down on and shunned, not helped. I've always had a soft spot for people in need. The homeless, the abused, I want to help. Thank you for this wonderful tribute to your Dad. He's smiling down on you.
I am sure your father is looking down and smiling upon you and all that you have achieved under his relentless guidance. You now walk proudly in his footsteps........
Be safe,
Karen

Living the Second World War in one of the countries your Dad helped to liberate, I posthumously salute and thank him, and will keep him in my memories, too. A Dad to be proud of, Edwin, a Dad you quite understandably miss very much. Yes, let's bring out a toast to him and all the other Heroes we commemorate today, tomorrow and until our time comes, too.

Edwin this brought back memories of my own Dad who was also a WW II vet and the subject of my first book Red Soil. I often think back with fond memories of him as you do of your father and yes they were the unsung heroes.
