Keep the Spirit Alive!

When the tree comes down and the ornaments you pack

Don’t forget the special feeling, let it keep coming back

When the last of the turkey is gone from your fridge

Remember the food bank, don’t burn the holiday bridge

When the sweaters are exchanged and sales come to an end

Think of the Salvation Army shelters, they can still use a friend

When you take out the garbage, bags of used paper and bow

Let it remind you of children, so many orphans you know

When you take down the lights, on the outside of your home

Don’t forget the seniors centre, so many old folks alone

When you toast to the New Year, Old Lang Sine wishes you share

Pledge to keep the Christmas giving spirit alive, throughout the whole year

P.S. As a volunteer and Chair of the Board of Director of a large multipurpose community centre looking after seniors, children and teens, I am amazed at the outpouring of love, compassion and generosity that people experience at Christmas.

My fondest hope is that we can keep that spirit alive throughout the year. It doesn’t have to be financial, volunteers are needed everywhere. I hope everyone has a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…………..Felix
