Blue mood I guess... sorry

Overwhelmed Depression

Tonight the right words fail me

I just don’t understand

I should be holiday contented

Like the waves upon the sand

The happiest day of the year

Has come and gone it seems

I think I slept through most of it

In wide eyed melancholy dreams

Now that the house is finally quiet

I’ve sat staring at this screen

So alone I feel like crying

Yet so afraid that I may scream

I know all the symptoms too well

I know the way the sickness works

Feel powerless to object though

Against all these little quirks

I need to climb the stairs

Find the amnesty of my room

Pull my life beneath the covers

I know it won’t erase the gloom

My heart aches a little deeper

My blood count borders suicide

My brain refuses common sense

It’s just there for the ride

I find the little dregs of my life

Clinging by a well worn thread

Say farewell to cyber space

To finally drag myself off to bed

Seems we all suffer from post Christmas depression. Some just more than others, when all the hustle and bustle is finished. All we can do is just hang in there and let our friends, either with us or across the miles on the net help us, and from reading the rest of your friends reviews you have lots of shoulders to lean on. Have a Happy New Year. Karen

Been there myself, my friend. My problems caused a block that lasted about two years. Every day of that was pure hell because I could not write. I thought I had lost my heart, but it came back eventually. There's never a moment I'm not aware of what my depression means, but I'm learning to live with it more and more. You will, too. What helps me is that even though time may not heal ALL wounds, it does soothe them.

We're all with you in this, Felix - to a greater or lesser degree. You have articulated bravely and honestly what most of us struggle to recognise, let alone give voice to. I am a Christian and find despair difficult because, beneath it all, I have sure grounds and feelings of optimism - but, temperamentally and genetically, without it life would probably be very different. Public holidays are painful and pressurising times for those who aren't necessarily caught up in all the hoops of having to "go through the motions" to please other members of friends' or family groups. Please do not feel alone - we can ALL relate to how you feel. It's very real - but is part of the cycle of peaks and troughs of life's rodeo ride. Hang on in there in the knowledge that when you're down... the only way to go is up! Hey - here's my hand - and many others reaching out to you to! Cyber space may be unreal in one sense - but, on the other hand, it is more real in many ways than the "false" relationships we can have even with our nearest and dearest, sometimes... I am very grateful for it! Take care and stick with it/us!! LOL Kate xx

My dear friend, you know that I understand your feelings
for I suffer from that horrible thing called depression also.
It can rob us of life's happiest moments. Let's not let it,
my friend. Let's fight it for all we're worth! You caught
the feeling of dispair in this write so well that even the
reader can feel it.

The type of depression is common in that most call it seasonal depression disorder. I agree with Robert in that it does capture this disorder so well.

i am not too familiar with depression but your poem does capture the emotional state of mind that depression is associated with quite effectively ...

Felix, I think maybe we all go through a bit of depression after all the glitz and glamour is done with on the holidays.
Don't let it get you down..search and find a place of solitude where life is more than enjoyable.
I'll be praying for you.

Felix...I read and re-read this poem. Though penned with style and flair, it does indeed capture the moment of despair. I read these lines below from a profile and that gave me further insight to this poem. (excellent words to live by)

I'm glad you were able to write so well about it! You captured the moment perfectly!
