Screams pierce the silent night
Beads of sweat drip like rain
Hands gripped tight in anticipation
Trying to hold off the pain
Images of heaven’s gate
Rapid breaths and spasms timed
Illegal words not truly meant
Actions often only mimed
So much white it hurts the eye
Blips and bleeps abound
Clinking instruments of cold steel
Add to the melody of sound
Grunts at other times undignified
Now have become a natal song
Endless minutes seem like hours
Worried faces why so long
Then a tiny scream of outrage
For ignoring her little fight
Baby Lily’s grand appearence
Blessed us all that night.
