To lost poets everywhere...

Poet’s Purgatory

The poet’s heart tonight is saddened

By the words he cannot find

He feels a little lost and hurting

A little part of him feels blind

He sits alone and stares at

The white glare of his screen

Plays inanely with his cursor

Like it’s the first one that he’s seen

The silence echoes of his wall

Deafening in its sublime

He feels lost in a purgatory

For some unspoken crime

He fears the night and dreads the day

An awkward cross-road lost alone

Too old to change to young to die

He just wants to find his way back home.

BRILLIANT!! You have made this well-known-to-all-of-us state of flux not whimsical but so concrete with the tie to such the matter-of-fact nuts-and-bolts of it all, Felix. And, if you really ARE sat there with nothing better to do, you could have a look at a poem of mine on a similar theme: "Writing Exercise" - which has comments on it which will fascinate you, too, I am sure!! And this somehow reminds me of "Whisper", which is also in my backlist... only if you're really bored though - but this certainly is inspiration for the rest of us, so not a totally unproductive evening! Bless you, Kate xx

the "block" comes for so many reasons....but i can tell you this....a true poet comes to know that he's never too old to change...or too young to die

This is excellent, Felix, though I have yet to feel this way. I don't even try to write until the inspiration hits me, which probably explains why I don't write all that often. (laffin) I have a lazy muse with a sense of humor who only gives me a spark of a line and expects me to write the rest or who loves to drop by when it is impossible for me to jot things down, and dump a big amazing poem on me. So, I write much more poetry in my head than I ever get to commit to paper. Don't fret, it will all come back to you...probably just when you finally start to drift off into that beautiful and much needed sleep.
Take care,
Sherry

Sigh... haven't we all been there, Felix! This has truth, accessibility and a huge dollop of imagination. Though this rings with familiarity, I have not read it expressed quite this way... I especially liked 'plays inanely with his cursor'... wonderful piece. katy xox.
