Come along to the country...

Poem Artwork

I long to escape the city
The smog, the traffic, the stress
I long to ditch the yoke
That keeps me in this mess

I want to ride the back-roads

Feel and hear the river spray

I need to hear the mountain sing

To hear what the forest has to say

I need the key to the shackles

Binding me to this desk and chair

Take the bars down from my windows

Let me breathe the country air

I must see the eagle’s flight

The deer wandering in the woods

I need to smell the wild flowers

To sample natures goods

I don’t want to hear the phone ring

Nor the computers haunting stare

I don’t want to sit at traffic lights

Or when it’s dark look out in fear

I’m breaking free and riding high

On my suburban YJ steed

If you get bored come on and join me

Leave behind the city greed

Ohmigosh, Felix, I feel like I've written this myself - or you dug this poem out of my soul! This is so me! Thank you, I must add this to my list of all time favorites - okay with you?

Interesting to say the least. I do feel for you living in the city. In my little corner of the world the air is fresh. Only have to walk out the door to enjoy the wonders of nature. It is only 52 more days until Spring gets here. Karen

For the first time in my life I have a real longing to get across the Atlantic and to discover all this VASTNESS of terrain and, yes, even your daunting city-scapes, too! You make me feel HUNGRY for a life that has so far lived for me only through the big and silver screens! It must have something to do with getting to feel so personally acquainted with all you wonderful people - and YES!! Let's do it... all aboard the AD Happy Bus and we'll travel the length and breadth of America and Canada - Australia and South Africa would be Phase II - picking up our writers coast-to-coast! That would be a dream come true! ... And did I say that I love this poem?! Need I say more?! :)))) LOL Kate xx

I know the feeling, Felix. I lived most of my life in Los Angeles, so a day in the mountains or an evening on the beach would go a long way towards burning off the city heat. Fortunately, both the mountains and ocean are a short drive from the part of the city I lived in. Here in New Mexico, I can be at the top of the mountain in about a half hour...better still. ;~) Wonderful write!
Take care,
Sherry

I can so relate Felix to this one the call to freedom no time clocks fresh air smog free the tender silence of nature. I often go to some relatives that have a farm house in remote area outskirts of Chicago to escape the hustle and bustle of the daily comute life in the city. This set me free just reading your poem. Thanks Nila:)
