She Was Daddy's Little Princess

Dedicated to all the young daughters who somehow took that wrong turn...may you someday find the road home.

she was once Daddy’s little Princess

when he’d tuck her in at night

she was Daddy’s little Princess

when he hugged her to him tight

now she’s the Queen of the midnight dancers

she twirls for the hungry, leering eyes

the nights she doesn’t have to share a bed

she dreams of her Daddy and she cries

on a stage she does her bump and grind

for crumpled bills from sleazy hands

she wears her needle tracks like worn tattoos

and nobody really understands

lap dances in the back room

make enough to buy her ease of mind

through her a drug induced haze

she can recall her Daddy’s love so kind

now she’s turning tricks for small bills

living one dime to the next

they didn’t teach her this in Grade school

never read it in some text

but she was Daddy’s little Princess

in his eyes she did no wrong

she was Daddy’s little Princess

where did she go wrong?

We can only love and guide them, hoping that it will be enough to keep them out of harms way. Sometimes this is not enough, with such bad drug problems and peer pressure. This is really a sad, but well written poem. Something for us all to really think about. Karen

This is a heartbreaking write, Felix. No mother or father holds their little baby and imagines them becoming a drug addict, alcoholic, hooker, thief, killer, etc. It seems that something in them just snaps one day and all the love and care that they once adored from us turns to distancing and hate. This is a good write, Felix, even though the topic is so very sad.
Take care,
Sherry

The Father's Heart is a strong and abiding influence that can ceaselessly call above all the winds and waves, a beacon of light, life and love, endlessly calling his daughter back home. We have all been, or are!, rebels and prodigals - sometimes by choice, sometimes by misjudgement or consequence, but I do believe that "the child is father to the man" and what Daddy's Little Princess learned and received in her earl, formative years will stay with her to help and guide. Treasure the questions, honour the journey - painful for both parent and child as it might be. And it's got to be said... some of the best role models and examples are those who have "bin there", whether we would have wished it upon them or not: those with the "happy ending", that is. My heart goes out to all whose story is different, however. Emotive and heartfelt, Felix, thank you.

Sometimes I think there's no grief like that of a parent grieving for a child gone or a child lost...

I agree with you Felix and some mama's boy helped the princess along the way.
