Remembered

I look at the wrinkled pictures

That tells the story of my past

I see my father’s dashing figure

In his shadow I was cast

In uniform and helmet

With rifle by his side

He fought the war for Britain

I never seen him if he cried

There’s a picture of my mother

Nine kids she raised on love

The tears fell like raindrops

When God called her up above

She insured we were not hungry

Went without to see us warm and dry

She grew too old before her time

None of us had to wonder why

Now I look back at my record

What will my kid say of me?

I hope she knows I tried my best

Even if it didn’t seem to be

I hope they say he loved us

He held us close to his heart

I hope they say he was a good man

From his love we did not want to part.

Very thoughtful, Felix. It's amazing all of the memories a photograph can hold.

This brought back a lot of memories of how I felt about my Dad. I never heard him complain for all the hard hours he put in to support his family. The good times and memories he gave us will never be forgotten. I hope that my children will feel as proud of me as I did my Dad. I think that your children and grandchildren are already saying what a great dad you are and when the grandchildren can talk they will say the same. After this poem, they will tell you and you won't have to hear it from the great beyond. Karen

Oh, they will, Felix, they will... and so much more besides. I have only known you through these pages a few weeks and even I can see this about you... so to be your child must be a joy and a complete privilege. And I speak as someone who has never known a father, or the circle of such loving parental arms... KNOW you are loved in this way and NEVER doubt it. Reminds me to tell my Mum those very same words... thank you for this. Bless you, Kate xx

Beautiful write Felix...as for how our children will see us is much on how we see ourselves...for sometimes we are our own worst critics...and years down the road, children now grown will see the truth in a different way...well done

Felix,

Extremely insightful. I say why wait? Ask them now, enjoy the hugs and bask in the knowledge of a job well done.

I am quite sure they will. I remember my father this way.

Very nice. I think all men worry what their kids will think. I do believe, they all know a Dad did his best, while learning on the job...
