The Death of Prince Charming
Alone on the hill by the shade of an oak
Alone on a hill she cries for him still
Alone on a hill where the granites stand guard
Alone on a hill she cries for him still
In the days of their youth she was his princess to be
And he her prince charming the whole world could see
Quaint village church among the flowers of spring
They vowed true love forever as he slid on her gold ring
He worked on the land as his father had done
Each night they made love watching the setting sun
She dreamed of children someday of their own
No thoughts of despair or fear of being alone
Then the news hit the headlines that the devil had rose
Across all of Europe his evil quickly grows
The Prince looks at the tears of his Princess who tries to be brave
I’will be back before you know it and democracy we will save
The black news came in a letter followed by folded flag
They say he died like a hero of his deeds you can brag
But she could not care less for her Prince Charming was dead
He never no more would share their lovers bed
No children would laugh in their house on the farm
No old age together safe and warm from all harm
Empty rooms and old memories, and dreams unfulfilled
It mattered no more since her Prince had been killed
Alone on the hill by the shade of an oak
They buried his body, but left his memory behind
Alone on the hill, she cries for him still
The love of her lifetime no other she will find
Take care,
Sherry
A meaningful story told in this haunting poem. This ought to be published. Whenever I watch the news and see those casualties of war I always think of those they leave behind. Each solider killed in the line of duty is somebody's son, somebody's husband and possibly father. One tragic death and so many are affected. It is so sad.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent fellow poet.
Love Chanti
A great love story that was destroyed by death. Brought a few tears during the reading of it. Karen
