It's a shame that a lot of children don't remember their senior parents or want to visit them till it is too late...
She struggles to chew her breakfast toast
Then slowly, painfully crosses to her favourite chair
Stares at where she thinks the TV is
Life no longer seems to her quite fear
She’s raised eight kids almost alone
When widowed at an early age
They say she’s old now but she wears the scars
Like a classic book on it’s last page
Glaucoma stole her eyesight away
A triple bypass slowed her movements down
Now Alzheimers wants to do the rest
Make her into some babbling clown
She don’t see too many visitors
They just can’t seem to find the time
Children quickly forget their Mothers
It should be a federal crime
She remembers when there were no cars
Remembers when there was no microwaves
Remembers when there was no TV’s
Even remembers people keeping slaves
Most of all she still remembers family
Standing by you till the end
Now it’s if you complain too loudly
There's a senior's home around the bend
She’s seen close to ninety years go by
As she wipes tears from her eyes
Knowing it’s another day she’ll be alone
Over the phone she’ll hear there little lies
Soon though she’ll be going to heaven
She smiles inside her heart to think of that
Because of the one who always was there for her
He'll puting out a special welcome mat.
EXCEPTIONAL, my compassionate friend...
I have such empathy for the elderly. I
worked in a nursing home for eight years
and saw first hand their pain and lonliness.
You have captured this better than I could.
Outstanding!!!

Every child in the world should read this. It is so sad to see the elderly watch for their children and grandchildren come to visit them, and none show up. Even when we think that they don't recognize us, I think that visiting them gives them a sense of being loved. And, yes it would make me feel really good to have parents on this earth to visit, but I know they are up there waiting for me to come to visit them again. Karen
This is so sad but it is so true and I always held the ones that faithfully went to see their parents a special place in my heart. My neighbor went to see her mother twice a day when she was in the nursing home. That was one thing about her that had my admiration.
Felix, A vivid picture of growing old. It's is a moral crime, to forget our elderly. Nobody is going to put you behind bars, but we will answer..someday. Yes we will.
Their wisdom is astounding, but most of the time ignorance is deaf, and that too is reality.
Stunning write Felix!
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
My book of poetry is being redone by me, I have a beautiful cover designed and the book will have a few more than 200 poems in it. I am going to have it printed on demand here in Canada. When it is done I will let you know when it is done and if anyo
