That old battered six-string Martin by the fireplace,
It would say a lot if it could only talk.
It would tell it shared the best and worst of me,
Would tell you why I walk the walk, I walk.
It helped me write that song about my baby girl,
It kept the beat when I sang my Dad's last goodbye.
It sang Christmas carols to the seniors at the Shady Rest,
Took the time to hear the north woods sigh.
It traveled across the country in a pick-up truck
It soaked the blood up in a bar room scrap.
It kept me company on a lot of cold lonely night,
Seemed to always want to just curl up on my lap.
It sang many love ballads to my sweethearts,
It sang campfire songs as I drank many a beer.
It never once refused to play with me,
It keeps its tone through all we have to share.
It played a soothing lullaby for my grandbabies,
It toured with us on our vacation trips.
It made me guilty when I bought a new one,
So now the new one has never rested on my hips.
Yes, if that battered old six-string of mine by the fireplace,
Could talk I'm sure I'd love to hear what it would say.
Because it still makes me smile and still comforts me,
Like it did since I took it home that very first day.
This is so genuine and it makes me smile with contentment and leaves me feeling warm and settled down... I'm thinking, too, "I'd love to hear him play"! There is nothing better than this for companionship, either on your own or with others, for that tender feeling of "coming together". You have painted a wonderful picture. Your old geetar is nothing without you, Felix, and delights in your putting the "words into its mouth" and bringing it alive! Delightful, thank you. Kate xx
Felix, I visioned a warm fire, a bottle of good wine and a cabin far away from the rest of the world. A walk through the woods and blanket spread on the ground...
That guitar sure sounds good!
Loved this Felix!
Great sentiment Felix. I could hear the music from thos strings as I read. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

Very sentimental poem. Well written and your love for playing it was very evident. I too think that it could be a good song. Karen
If these walls could speak, if this guitar could share all of the secrets it's heard, played, all the emotions that come through the fingers that strum it...this is a beautiful write Felix. Michelle

Well it does talk in a way when you strum those strings. There ain't nothing like a good guitar or six string instrument. This would make a good country and western song.
This is really excellent, Felix. It is strange how these inantimate objects get under our skin and how they take on a personality of their own. It is strange how we earmark our lives by the music, the lovers and the cars we drive.
Take care,
Sherry

THIS is very good, sentimental crap that damn near had me blubbering away like a three-year-old as I read the wonderful words that you penned as a homage to your old guitar. Really. Very good.
Very nice, Felix. And it lives in your heart, I'm sure. I'm a softy for pickers - lots of them in the family, married one, almost married another, and spent much of my life wrapped in the warmth of live music. Thanks for the memories.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
That guitar sure sounds good!
Loved this Felix!
