Oh how quickly we realize too late what we gave away...

The Goddess Maker

Her soul lingers in the lonely corridors of my mind

Long after her bodily presence has gone

Her eyes like cat shadow eyes appear now and then

In the recesses of my brain where they once  shone

Her scent like the unseen scent of rain

Drifts in and out of my peripheral sense of smell

Her touch caresses my skin like a breeze

Where I  lay naked on my bed as time stands still

I have raised her status in my heart to that of Goddess

Loftily she floats always just outside my reaching arms

I worship her memories like a golden sun idol

Wishing l could once more share her charms

I was once the implement of her innermost desires

Now I  kneel at the alter of her sacred heart

I thought I could imprison her love with mine

Now broken, defeated, from her spirit I sit apart.

Great write... the power in any relationship can become god-like or goddess-like... making the pain of separation so much more intense

Felix, you could make some woman sublimely happy with this piece - I feel deep down this is how all women want to be revered by their man! And for those of us steeped in the Pagan culture of ancient times - that's how it should be! (grin) Very achingly well done! Oh, that all love be reciprocated...

Oooo this is soo painful!!! It is difficult for both parties if one makes the other to be the object of their admiration, perhaps, to the extent that their view of them becomes an idealisation, setting them on some lofty and distant pinnacle that is not of his/her own choice or making. I would think that this kind of passion "in extremis" that you paint so poignantly here is the reason why many relationships ultimately become like dashed altars - on account of making a religion out of what should instead be a mutual relationship of a truth in spirit that is born out of reality. "Now I kneel at the alter of her sacred heart / I thought I could imprison her love with mine" - such an honest but desperate realisation. Well-penned as always, Felix. There is such depth to your soul. TY Kate xx

It is true that often we don't appreciate what we have until it is taken from us. I think this is particularly true where our partners are concerned. As the years pass, we scarcely realize how much they mean to us and how much their very presence does for the well being of our spirit. It is the worst type of lonliness when we realize that it is our own actions that have banished us to that solitary place.
Take care,
Sherry
