sins and souls

The older we get themore we seem to take stock of our past...

sins of life’s transgressions

in the twilight of his years

he tried to take stock of his past

he recognized, notarized, plagiarized

all his life long sins,

demented, tortured memories behind him

for atonement he did cast

apologized to his enemies,

then eulogised to his friends

gathered up his transgressions

tried to make some sweet amends

counted, totalled, added up

held his blessings in his hand

wondered, thundered, plundered

himself off into happy land

now giving and benevolent

squandered the remaining time he had

heard the immortal ghosts of judge and jury say

your soul is not so bad!

Amen! Even our transgressions contribute toward our growth and the growth of those we've greived. This is why forgiveness is divine. Especially forgiving ourselves! Grace is not an earned or ambitioned goal. It just is...Wise write, Felix

Life is a journey from which we are supposed to learn. You say it well in these verses, Felix. Love and peace to you. Regis

It's no secret that I believe that Grace is the way to shift the guilt and shame of the past: the reality of being cleansed. On the other hand, how we convert that forgiveness into what we actually choose to do about it is another matter. Certainly all souls are cleansed and redeemed - through faith rather than "deeds", I believe, but that then makes us accountable to "act" on this belief and to consciously think and choose how we behave and live our lives in the light of that fact. One thing's for sure, we can skirt the issues for only so long before they come up and hit us on the nose! Guilt can be a hard task-master and slave-driver; on the other hand, the experience of grace can be a positive motivator! The truth is that none of us is as bad as we fear or think we might be... but sadly, none is probably as good, either. Good points to ponder here as alway, Pops. You're squeaky, as far as I'm concerned! LOL Kate xx

As we get older we attempt to learn from our previous errors/transgressions...sometimes unsucessfully lol...I think all souls can be redeemed, as most are not so bad after all. Nice one Felix.

Wonderful introspection Felix ...
something we should all do now & then.

Hey, it's spring ...
no time better to shake the dust from our souls!

Blessings,
Joseph

Somehow we just wake up one day and realize that we have gotten old. We realize that we have messed up a lot of things that we have never made any attempt to fix. We have hurt the very people who have loved us the most and we neglected to appologize and really mean it. Suddenly, when we notice that our eventual demise is no longer so eventual and that it is not something that we can any longer ignore, we finally gain perspective. We have to employ a lot of fancy footwork to make amends for the wrongs we have committed...and we hope with all of our hearts that it won't be too little-too late. Very nice write, Felix with a powerful message.
Take care,
Sherry

You have touched on a universal realization! We age.......
oh la la
this is very good....wise....and with a dash of humor :)
A few summers ago, in the space of two weeks, I had the same conversation with 2 different women. They both had turned 70 (and were very young 70's in appearance and spirit) and both went into a crying jag while talking to me....
All this was brought on by realizing that that had lived their lives for other people, and wasted so many yrs.
That woke me up........scared me too, nearly shit my pants!!!

that cliche about life being what you make of it...........
oh yeah
Big Time TRUE...
20/20 hindsight is another is another kick in the craw...(what is a craw anyway)

but we survive!!!
happy/sad/angel/bad
we do what we do..........till we are thru!!!
ok off my ramble............Anita :) lol
