Front Seat at the Coffee Shop

It's fun sometimes to just sit back and watch people live their lifes...

Front Seat at the Coffee Shop

Man in an old trench coat

Shifting eyes like a billy-goat

Leather briefcase and a necktie

Sipping black coffee with a sigh

Lady in a maternity dress

Wiping up a spilled juice mess

From her crying little boy

Only wants his race car toy

Couple dressed in black in a corner

Like some somber graveside mourner

Holding hands and sipping tea

Looks like illegal like romance to me

Salesman speaking way too loud

Trying to impress the bored crowd

His suits a little out of style

Then again so is his smile

Young one in a low cut top

Boobs impressive oh please stop

Jeans so tight they’re painted on

Check her out at you she’ll frown

Lady mopping up the floor

Haggard and tired that’s for sure

I sit on the retiree’s side alone

Drinking heart smart decaf pure

Watching a rat race pass me by

Glad to be out I cannot lie

I loved this Felix! I was in that coffee shop with you and observing through your eyes. One of my favourite hobbies is people watching. There is much to be learned this way. You capture it all so well.

We are both in and out with you, having been a party to this well-documented scenario, Pops. You sketch this deftly with just the right telling detail - and can just smell that coffee! Wish I could join you right now, but someday I reckon I'm gonna get my backpack on and hike right across continents just to share that corner seat for a while!! :)) Just a shame it is quite so far - but certainly doesn't feel it by the way you bring it to life for us. I'll get the tab... !! LOL Kate xx

I love to people watch, Felix. No matter where I go, I like to sit where I can watch the world walk by. Nice work!!
Take care,

To me the best part of going to the mall in a large city is people watching. The rest can shop till they drop, but I prefer just watching others. Sounds like you enjoy watching others also. Very interesting description. Karen

Great write. You catch subtle nuances some might miss. Must confess I'm a shameless people-watcher myself. The best place is the San Francisco International Airport. Trip!

ENCORE! ENCORE! Now this is the kind of poem that comes from my heart. I go to the cafe as often as I can to write observational poetry. And this one was so spot on, I could see it happening. Wonderful job!
