Old Not Senile...Yet

It always amazes me how each generation think they have come up with their own unique styles and refuse to believe their elders had anything to do with it. It also amazes me at the nerve and gall of some of today's youth (for those that don't know a 30-30 is a deer rifle and this is purely fictional).

Older, Not Senile

Yea, I am a genuine real old timer son,

On that fact with you I must agree

I’ve seen a lot of hard summers pass

You know the years don’t come free

Yea, I see that little bitty foreign car you drive

Well its shiny, makes a lot of noise I see

I recall a ’69 Camaro I once used to drive

It would sting your little puppy like a bee

Yea, I only have the one erring

Not really in to body piercing pain

I got this in memory of a brother lost

I guess your ten don’t mean the same

Yea, I heard your friend call me Kojack

No, I guess my hair is not as long as yours

Seems to me though I was there when it began

Listening to the Beatles, Stones and Doors

Yea, this old Jeep is now my main ride

No, I doubt it could race yours quarter mile

I tell you though if we go off road

It will be me that sits at the end to smile

Yea I heard you say you want my money

I just don’t see that happening, I’m sorry

You see me and my Jeep may be old

But...

We match my trusty Winchester thirty-thirty

Night boys….

Very good description of how things like that do happen. I totally agree with only ear piercing, and only one. Our yester years are totally different than the times we are living in now, but I do know what a 30-30 is. Interesting write. Karen

Old is but a definition lacking acuity... and senile can be a stage attained regardless of age, thus beyond the definitions of young and old. Your poem is wise, as would be a mind and a soul that have experienced and learned much (and some would very inaccurately call the wise blend... old), but it is also energetic and sparkling, like the body and the eyes that are "alive n' kickin'" (and some would feel very tired just by the thought of matching it, because they've gone senile, even if they are defined, quite inaccurately, too, as... young)... :0)

To be old and wise you first have to have been young and stupid... looks like the two have come together in this write, Pops!! Age thankfully mellows our arrogance: don't matter whether it's cars, hair or culture... we all have been part of the The Young Ones Rule kinda scene in some shape or fashion, I am sure. But there IS something hard-line and malevolent about gangs of today's youth, marauding in a highly abusive and threatening manner. It is very ugly and must be terrifying for the vulnerable. But, take each kid on their own, and they wouldn't even lift their eyes to meet your gaze, I am sure. What a painful and dislocated generation we have become. Family breakdown at the heart, apart from fiscal policy, I expect. Bit early for a soapbox, so I'll just get back to the hearth and cinders! Tell these pups to go get their specs on THEN come back and see who they are confrontin! What do they think you are wearing under your jacket - thermal padding?! Take care, thou Great Protector. LOL at Robert's comment! Thugs are just babies who are afraid that they could never make it in the working world. They know that they would fail and look as stupid as they are so they steal and rob thinking it makes them "big tough men." In the end, they will be the ones left in the dust, living homeless on the street with others stealing everything they own. Karma has a way of biting you in the butt when you least expect it. (o; Good write, Felix!
Take care,
Sherry
