This is an old poem I wrote many years ago but still like...

Massage My Aching Ego

Yes, please massage my aching ego,

Scotch tape again my broken heart

Tell me that you are really sorry

Wish we did not drift apart

Hold my tear-filled eyes in your gaze

Pretend you are looking into my soul

Whisper you never did forget me

You just followed another goal

Now touch me with your silken fingers

Yes, long lingering and slow

Brush your sweet lips on mine

Until once more you say it is time to go

I know the secret truth you are hiding

Lie to me again because I want to know for sure

That someday when I will be strong enough

I will say “I’m sorry…I don’t love you anymore!”

Ouch. Sometimes it is better beliving the lies and disappointments...They don't hurt as much and they do massage the ego. Excellent work

No wonder you like this one, Felix.. it is top drawer and spot on! An excellent write! We need to go on hearing the words from someone else until we can stop needing the lies enough to face up to the truth. And sometimes we are the on-going inflictor of our own pain, using that other "someone" as the blunt instrument with which to beat ourselves. Complex and stirring - whether we hold these thoughts in a process of denial or in desperate need. You are at your very best when you wear your heart on your sleeve and get so gut-wrenchingly visceral. "Love hurts" so that old favourite tune goes... We have to run these closed down taps of emotion until the water runs clear and fresh through them... Bless you and TY Kate xx
