Officially retired now...

They gave me a piece of paper

Signed by the head of our country

They gave me a gold ring

For loyalty and devotion

They gave me a fine luncheon

Someone spoke how I’d be missed

They gave me a gift certificate

Said you’ve earned it all it’s true

They drifted off in ones in twos

Till I sat all alone and kind of lost

They had something to rush back to

I just laughed and said screw you too.

Oh man, this is GREAT. How many retirees have felt exactly the same as this? My dad certainly did. You have captured the spirit of the occasion brilliantly. Michelle

Superb write Felix, it's always the same, doing it because it needs to be done, when in reality they wouldn't give you the time of day...just give 'em the bird boppa, as you've done here...nice one.

Felix, I know these thoughts well, though I am still a few years from doing this, I am a short timer by all standards...I look to this day as a day of liberation...all the best to you and a happy fathers day to you boppa.

An appreciation of self worth is the best reason for celebration! Now you may have more time to embrace the things of your heart ... and to smell life's roses (watch out for the thorns)... and to love and create with passion! Enjoy! Good poem!

So true, Felix... how we just ALL go through the motions that life puts us through. Happily though, REAL living is made up of much more important stuff and with more meaningful connections to make - like here and now! :)) I feel quite sad if the "long work service" accolade is the only thing that people have got going for them... Just shows we are all so busy doing nothing that we can't wait to get back to it on this treadmill of so-called "employment". Don't mind me... I'm probably just cranky cos I am in no danger of getting a gold watch or gilt certificate from ANYBODY!! :)) LOL Neat and honest write, TY Kate xx

Marvelous! Never let the big boys get to you. That's what they want, to own your soul. Thanks for sharing!

This is so sad...but I guess a sadreality of a ungrateful world dear Felix...that's why so many don't give a damn anymore...knowing the end result!!

Hope you free days will be more "Kind" to you....I say screw them...show them the "Zap" sign everytime you walk pass them in the street!!

Govermental Humanity stinks!!

Love Tinka

The bitter-sweet tang adds to the fine irony of this very well written reflection, my friend. Indeed, they drift off... but now you will be the one enjoying quality time to the fullest, and they will be the ones who will go on rushing... trying to grasp a time that flees from everyone, after all. My sincere wishes of all the very best to you, and as one of those who appreciate your talent and kindness, I will be looking forward to more of your creations. Life begins now.

Felix,

Congratulations! :) Now look at all of the time you'll have to write more of your wonderful poetry. You've retired from one place and have been hired to write...kind of a neat trade off, if you ask me!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla (who's not tired, just RE-tired LOL)
