Winter Years Romance
She looked to me a little lonely
On that park bench eyes downcast
Face once held high to greet the sun
Now chasing memories of her past
Though time had aged her beauty
It could never erase her charm
When I sat she turned towards me
With a smile meant to disarm
She replied when I asked if I may share
Her bench and her time of day
She said please sit if you don’t mind
I’d enjoy your company please stay
We talked of things like kids
And war and the politics of the day
Till finally the subject turned to love
And how it easily it slips away
We’d shared a love once long ago
That somehow just got lost
She married for money me for love
Her heart paid a heavy cost
Now alone again in twilight years
Two hearts again in love evolve
A kiss of love not lust like once
The sins of past absolve
