The Answer

I bare the sins of youth long past

That swallowed up too many years

The anger, hate, and jealous traits

The laughter and the tears

I look at things so different now

Not clouded lies in pride

Too short the summers flew by

Disillusioned thoughts I’ve sighed

Hopes and dreams and plans and schemes

All mean so little at the very end

When the light shines in the distance clear

It’s too late then to make amend

So children hear my humbled voice

Take or reject what I must say

Learn early love is all that counts

It’s the treasure to your dying day.

Yes, yes, yes - so, so true!! And would we all had ears to hear this, whatever age we are! I just wish our youngsters COULD be told... but we have all been there, haven't we? Some things are only learned along the road of experience and maturity, perhaps. I wish it could be different, that we would learn WHAT IS IMPORTANT from the outset - but the exuberance of youth just rushes ahead, don't it? However, that being said, what is led from the front and given unconditionally within the early years DOES tend to shape the young minds it nurtures, so things should shape up in the end. Strong and wonderful verses as always, Pops, reflecting the sincerity and bottomless love in your own massive pumping machine! :)) Good to have you back! LOL Kate xx

All you need is love, eh? I sure love the song, and your poem beautifully reflects the ideology, but I'm not so sure anymore. I guess love for something in particular, or someone, or allowing yourself to emit a genuine caring matters. But this romantic love toward another - I think I've become a cynic. Glad you still have your heart, Felix!
