The wind batters from the North to fight the
Gulf Stream’s flow
Turning summer’s promise
To another season of ice and snow
I pull on my ragged sweater
The one my mother made you see
A fishermen’s knit pattern
A little worst for wear
She made it years ago for me
The leaves form mini cyclones
The colors blind my eyes
Like the artist paints his pictures
Or grandfather tied his flies
I take a walk along the forest
The last of the berries fading shades
Blueberries shriveled acorns on the ground
Squirrels are stocking up their stash
They know that fall won’t be long around
Still I love the sights and smells it offers
Love the briskness and the added chill
As I feel I am in my own autumn years
It is my time to enjoy the world as well
