Counting Hearts

I once was a child not all alone

I once had love to call my own

Then love deserted me cruelly

Left me scared without a home

Searched for but never found

Cried for but not enshrined

Forgotten by some for a time

Wandered aimless like a rhyme

My feral instincts took control

Survive, survive the only rule

Look out for number one in all

Don’t look for love you silly fool

I counted hearts as battles won

Like a cowboy would notch a gun

I was blind to tears and cares

My heart was cold under the sun

Then one hearts tears of love for me

Opened my eyes to what love could be

Embraced her love, embraced her heart

Love brought me back to another start

Yes Felix,
I know the dismay of love gone cold, like I know the back of my own hand, but fortunately nothing stays the same in this world. Looks like it has warmed to the occasion for you, ( so glad to know) maybe it's a gift from above for those of us who were struggling hard before.
I have been preoccupied for a while, but hope to pop in as often as possible
Love n hugs
Ch'erie

love renews us ... it is like a river of warmth we marvel at swimming in ... its never to late to love ... the past is just a ripple that fades away from the stream of our essence ...

Sometimes we lose our focus and we question why we are even here, why do we live in pain and confusion...then someone comes along or there is an event in our life that smacks us hard and forces us to find our fated direction again. We are blessed when we can be alone and not feel lonely, frightened or confused. Great write, Felix!
Take care,
Sherry

The fact that one person's cold treatment can turn us cold too is sad, but so often true. Glad this poem had a happy ending.

Can so relate to this, Felix. We are all, I think, to some extent, wounded children walking around in adult bodies. But when unconditional love knocks on the door of our heart, that melts all that pain away and makes us feel lovable, perhaps. Reckon the shite we give others in some ways is to make us have more reason than we might already do to "hate" ourselves. It takes a wonderful love to teach us that, in fact, there is beauty in us even so... this is just one angle on a multifaceted and altogether heart-warming write that is both honest and encouraging. Bless you, dear Pops xx

Where there is love, there is hope. Felix those feral instincts are embedded within us all, some just don't have the courage to use them.
I'm glad you found your place in her heart...
