...pride still lives on.

Poem Artwork

Standing taller as pride allowed him

Dressed in the garb of army green

Queen and country called for volunteers

He was first to join the war machine

Left behind the red soiled farmland

Left behind his family true

Off to take on madman Hitler

It was just what he had to do

Like thousands more young men from Canada

Under Britanica’s flag they marched to war

Through the blooded battlefields of Europe

Many never to return no more

Back then a soldier was a hero

Fought proud for the oppressed worldwide

Yes they were frightened, scared and worried

Yet when called they died with pride

And the private in the picture standing

Just another soldier ready for dutie’s call

Today I look back and thank the Lord

That my Dad he stood so tall!

At five foot four, he was a giant to us and not one of us would dear cross him. Hands of steel and heart of gold.

Considering how often the wolf knocked on our door when dad was laid off and had no income, Mom and Dad always managed to supply us the neccessities of life. Like the "Hag" said in his song,¨"It's a Hard Live Getting By With Nine Kids and a Wife". But he did. Through the good times and the hard times, they stayed together to the end.

Dad was hero to us in so many ways.

Thanks Bro,

John

And that is your Dad!!! So many brave boys and men have fought for us and others all over (and now young girls and women, too). May it not all be in vain; how could it ever be if we are all to be free? Felix, God bless you Father and God bless you for writing this tribute to him and to all of the fallen and unsung heroes and heroines fighting for others who cannot fight. "Fight if we must, if our cause it is just"; from the song that was written back in 1700plus something??
Thank you, Felix for this honor. Love, Meredith

Thank God and God bless all men like your father who put their lives on the line to defend us- and the morons who critcize the soldiers ought to remember that they would not be able to shoot their mouths off it wasn't for people like your father, good, strong, courageous men who have values and strong beliefs and put most of us to cowardly to defend our country to shame.

Bless our brave men and women who served, and are now serving, their country. May they come home soon.

I honor every soldier that has served in the name of freedom, Felix. Without their sacrifice and courage I would not live, as I do today, in a land of liberty. I am proud of all of my family and friends who have served and are still serving. To me, there is no such thing as "just another soldier" though that is often how many view themselves, to me, they are all "HEROES." Excellent poem, Felix. Thank you for sharing your Dad's picture and his story with us.
Take care,
Sherry
