Stevie git me some more firewood for that stove

Tinka hurry now and git that bread in the oven

Shelly, oh my lord, stop picking on little Felix and sweep up that mess

Sherry give the twins Karla can Karen some of that porridge while I make Dad his tea

No you can’t have a quarter for the picture show Friday Aletia

I don’t care if Layla and Merideth are going

Sherry are you even going to give your old ma a kiss before you leave

Kate, sweet Kate what’s this I hear about you and Tina and Alexandra getting in trouble at school, ya better not or I’ll tan ye backsides

Okay now my loves line up, grab your lunches and kiss your old ma on the way out the door

 “I love you!”

Thank you for sharing a moment of the past with us. This was brilliant. Old Ma, reminds me of the good old days when we all were siblings each with their own idenity. Chores, tricks, wants and sometimes heading for trouble unknowingly. Till Pa or Ma laid their foot down. The memories.

haha this is brilliant.
i love listening to parents trying to organise the world [household]. especially before church on a sunday. my mother only had 2 kids and herself to get to church and somehow even that was impossible haha.

and the way kids always say "but shes doing it..." as if its a real reason why they should be able to.

you say a whole lot in this piece without saying very much at all which is beautiful and the way you round it off with 'i love you' really does seal the beauty of the piece because below all the 'yes you can' 'no you cant' 'do this' 'do that' 'i'll tan your backside' talk is the love of a mother who is so proud of her kids.

i loved 'git' hehe.

the only bit i didnt understand was

Sherry give the twins Karla can Karen some of that porridge while I make Dad his tea

karla can karen?

but yes. this is a beautifully crafted piece =)

Growing up in a family of ten and Catholic, can relate Felix! Memories of the breakfast table-if you weren't on time you didn't eat and "finish your plate or you can't leave". Thank God we had two bathrooms, lol! Parents of big families have to run them like a platoon or mayhem ensues! Oh there was plenty of humor and fun, too. Who could survive without it? Lin

Awww..yep that is how it is in big families, Felix. Even with just four kids in my family and a dairy goat farm to run, our mornings were much like you describe here. Chores to do, breakfast to be made and served, lunches to be made and kids out the door before they missed the school bus. As harried and rushed as those mornings were, they remain fond memories for me. It is cute the way you used our names to bring it all into a familiar realm. It is good to have you back and I hope you are feeling much better.
Take care,
Sherry

Felix,
You have a masterful imagination. You don't know how much you are missed and prayed for when you are not able to be here.
You give us smiles and just as many reasons to cry, but always, always give us hope and love.
Happy Valentine's Day Felix!

Lisa
