One Lone soldier Walks Away

After reading a fellow writers poem today about the hippy days, my favorite song from back then was "One Tin Soldier" and this write is like a modern day version of that to me...

One Lone Soldier Walks Away

When the deadly veil of the smoke cleared to a winter day

and the thunder of the cannons ceased all that they could do was pray

to the God of Christians, the god of  the father son and holy ghosts…

ghosts of young men cut down some too young to vote, some still virgins, some

mothers and fathers, and grandfathers too, the living though become the walking dead

when they can’t erase the carnage in their heads…

heads of state pay their respect, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings all orate in style,

plead for peace but smile all the while, economies and coffers

filled with gold, as flags from coffins neatly folded true …

true they shake the hands and pat the backs, they hand out medals to those who come back, smile for the camera, election smiles for the press at home, one lone soldier drifts off to cry alone….

alone one soldier walks away.

Felix,
I love reading others poems about war, it shows me all the sides that I've either turned away from, or just hadn't gotten to yet.
Those that are fortunate enough to live in lands that are basicly free to move around as they please, are probably the most grateful when it comes to sharing their praises upon those in uniform.
People just have to realize, without their sacrifices through history, we just wouldn't be at all, and if we were...we wouldn't be the Country we are today for sure.
Felix..excellent writing!

In my personal view, no one should have a smile on their face when speaking about the war, nor include the word 'peace' as if it's a part of war. Two completely different mind-sets, but that's just one hippy/hillbilly's opinion. Good write Felix!

Every soldier who goes into battle carries a secret torture with him/her for the rest of his/her life. It would be a wonderful thing if we could build a peaceful world, but instead of making it a personal priority, we turn to our leaders to make it so. If ever there shall be peace, it will happen when each of us comes together with the others; only then will it be possible to find the pathway to peace. I thank God for the Soldiers, those who have the strength and conviction to do what they have to do, no matter the price, so that I can live as I do, in freedom, prosperity and in a much better lifestyle than most of the rest of the world. I am truly blessed and I owe most of that blessing to the Soldiers. Wonderful writing, Felix.
Take care,
Sherry

One lone soldier walks away...with the horror in his head, growing up way too fast for the terror he's seen, dulled senses and weighted down for life...one lone soldier walks away. This got to me in so many ways Felix but that is the earmark of a good poet.
