my spirit lingers still
shadows dance with dusty dreams
where once laughter echoed loud
my spirit died but still I dwell
to sit alone amid this spirit crowd
please hear me in the moonbeam glow
of where our love did bloom
‘tis here I dwell in spectral form
waiting for you in this gloom
vague images of past life spent
babies coddled at your breasts
infants clutching apron strings
children studying for tests
I smell your perfume on the air
I feel your arms like lost sorrow’s pain
of shared love such as none before
and for me can never be again
for the price of a drink I lost all that was
your love and our family dear
you moved on as well you should
but my spirits condemned to linger here.

the very first word! This is so sad that I hate to take
pleasure. . .but so well- and passionately-written that I
can't help it. Can't think of how to do the poem justice.
L o v e it, L o v e the author, L o v e all the above!

Thank you, Sir, for posting this sobering write. I've been sober 23 years. You know what stopped me from drinking? Not remembering how I got home...yes, I drove home, drunk. It's only by the Grace of God that I didn't get in a wreck, kill anyone or myself, or get stopped. Right then, I decided I didn't need alcohol in my life. Now, if I could do the same with cigarettes.....haunting, excellent write that may have saved many lives, very well penned.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
This is always a message worth shouting from the rafters! Over and over again.
I'm not sure what part of 'just don't do it' that they don't get, but the jails and the graveyards are stacked to the rims with those that don't listen. The saddest part of it all, is those that are in the graveyards, that were just going home from work, or the entire families that were just spending some quality time together. It's the innocent that pays the highest price.
Keep shouting this message Felix! Loud!
