The Fisherman
I never met the man from Newfoundland
Never got to teach me how to fish for trout
Never took me for a ride on the Newfie Bullet
The train he worked and knew so much about
I never held his hand or sat upon his knee
Never got to hug and call him grandpa
Or say goodnight Poppy after a story he’d unfold
I got to see a ship in a bottle he once made
I have some photos of him wrinkled, gray and old
He is me and I am him, that cannot be more clear
And I’m so glad to be the grandson of this man
That my own sweet mother held so dear.
Love this piece..saved it! Ty Felix

PS your Gramps is so sweet in this picture..
I love a person who admires their heritage. Without this terrific man what would Mister Fee be missing?

"...He is me and I am him, that cannot be more clear..." How beautiful and supremely true!
He would be so proud of you ... wherever he is; life never ends...
You are your Grandfather to your beautiful JLee and Lily! Oh, how life connects and combines! You have his love inside, as well as all your own. How Abundantly Precious…
Thank you for sharing this... and your bio pic is updated, showing you in front of your boat .. And then I read this poem! See the connection...?! Love it!
Love, Suzie :-D
I barely remember my mom's Dad. What I do recall, he was a gentle, loving man. This is a beautiful tribute to yours, even though you didn't know him. Well done.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
