My Heart Will Alwatys Be...

Somehow I see this in my future...

My Heart Will Always Be…

He takes a quick sip of his supper tea

In a mug of blue and white

Reads the inscription on it one more time

As he does most every night

“My heart will always be…

in a cottage by the sea”

Then his fingers taps the words out

Tell of his longing of the oceans call

In poetry and magical short stories

On a ships bridge he stands strong and tall

He rhymes like the classic Ancient Mariner

Weaves Pirate stories on high seas

Tells of mermaids and King Neptune’s home

Treasure chests with magic keys

Till his aging mind grows tired and weary

Taking one more sugared sip of luke-warm tea

Turns off computer and his sailor adventures

This retirement home is what it is meant to be

“My heart will always be…

in a cottage by the sea”

Beautiful and sad. I am so thankful that my dad continued his visits to the sea until he died at 87. No retirement home, just death. Hopefully he is enjoying heaven and oceans we cannot comprehend.

But a heart like this, dearest Felix, will always be one living where there are no walls, where the whole sky is the only roof and the only floor is the whole expanse of the ocean and shores beyond it. A heart like this pulses infinity and it becomes... words of the timelessness of dream written on a page that life doesn't ever erase. Thank you, Poet with a heart like this.

Felix,
I don't see you in a retirement home anytime soon! So don't be rushing things okay!
Besides..what do you think they make laptops for? lol I think we need to have an AD retirement home..where we can all go together. Sounds like a great idea to me! Ofcourse instead of nurses we may need a few bouncers from time to time.
Quite the sentimental piece of writing here Felix..it's got a flair of secrecy within.

This reminds me so much of my friend Gerhard Shimsow. He was the captain of the Barbra Negra...a century old whaler made famous in the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty". He would never settle for a nursing home...He checked himself out a few months ago and layed his life upon a limb. Your poem tugs at my heart with visions of this pirate's sparkling blue eyes and a smile that was electrifying whenever he told his tales of the sea.
He is missed. Your poem gives all the old salts immortality and the wonderful legend of the sea carries on.

Thanks Fee.
Love,
Susan

L o v e this! From the very first sip to the warm and loving heart
in the cottage by the sea. Felix Perry, you stand strong and tall, indeed. Always will! Age has got nothin' t'do with it. What's inside that counts. And what is inside you is g l o r i o u s.
