He Takes Her For Granted

Some men don't realize how lucky they are until they destroy the very essence of what they wanted. To a good friend, you know who you are....

he doesn’t know he’s so lucky

to hold her it’s true

he can’t understand her

not the way that I do

he finds ways to degrade her

to rein in her sweet smile

strips confidence blindly

he thinks it’s his style

he don’t see she’s a treasure

that I’d cherish for life

he thinks he can train her

to be just an obedient wife

he don’t hear her teardrops

as she asks me what’s wrong

he don’t hear her voice quiver

she’s no longer that strong

someday though he’ll wise up

when it’s already too late

he’ll find an imprinted pillow

overflowing love turned to hate

Sad commentary on relationships Fee, but I especially liked the vehicle of the third party, one who watches in silence and pain.

I know someone like this too! One day she'll open a window and 'fly away'...

You perfectly caught the way a lot of loves are going sour just for because one takes the other for granted. It is heartbreaking to think about how right you are. A great poem, it should wake up a few cold hearts.

Dear Felix,

This certainly touched raw nerves. I wonder just how many men have such a low self esteem, that in process they have to manipulate, exert power, and totally denigrate a woman, just so that they can feel "Manly" about it! Most do wise up a little to late finding that imprinted pillow with overflowing love turned to hate... or pity, which is worse! A superb write Felix, certainly all the emotions and anguish are penned. Thank you for sharing this touching poem.

Warm hugs
Elga

This is a deeply thoughtful poem to your friend and it gives so many of of us insight into why things went wrong and why we left. Lack of respect and a need for power over another ruins a love that started out perfect. You spoke so well with this pen Fee. You nailed it!!
Love and pease,

having been in this situation over a decade ago, I can tell you that you hit the hammer on the head, Felix! He'll be shocked when she leaves. Your poem portrays the narcissist, misogynist, downright dirtball for the unfeeling piece of crap he is! No, I'm not bitter...

This poem is so beautifully written with truth that I can't help but tear up. It's something I needed today more than I can say. Well done. Keep up the good work.

Fee this is an exceedingly powerful and poignant write and holds so much depth in terms of the balance of power in relationships. While there is a current flowing he will always have a power, ...once she has made the choice to flick the switch, his power will be gone. Liked this...a lot. Panda :)
