My Poetic Milestone

When I first hit the keyboards

To write a poem or too

I found an outlet for my heart

When nothing else would do

Wrote to share my dreams

Wrote to comment on world affairs

Wrote to make some people smile

Wrote to chase away some tears

Wrote on our changing times

Wrote on moral attitudes

Wrote on my muse’s themes

Wrote also of the blues

Wrote of my granddaughters

Wrote of sweet gifts from God above

Wrote of my sins and weaknesses

Wrote so often about love

Sometimes I wonder if I’ve written

Just one too many writes

Is my muse starting to tire

From way too many late, late nights

Yet if you take away my keyboard

You’d take away my very voice

So I guess I’ll keep on writing prose

I really have no choice.
