As the sea Shall call...

The Pubnico Maiden

Eerie sea fog on the inlet

Fresh hore frost on the rocks

Dory pulling double oars

Darned holes in both my socks

Briney waves roll angry inland

Dunes valiantly try to break their fall

My maiden watches from the headland

Salt spray kisses sent from sea wall

Northeast wind ‘neath darkened sky

We pull round the Pubnico light

Have to turn the bow in slightly

Sweet maiden lays alone tonight

Gulls bid their screeching last farewell

Then turn with the wind towards shore

In my heart I hear her sweet goodbye

Seaman’s lady waits for me once more

She knows that seamen love the ocean

Like the farmer loves the land

Like the lumberman loves the forest

She knows with the sea shares her man.

A sailor's first love..the sea, and always a worried love stands atop the lighthouse and waits. Loved it!

ah, the salt air of the sea flows through your veins, Felix ... the Pubnico Maiden is married both to her fisherman and to the sea and the fisherman to the sea and his harbor of love ... vibrant imagery brings this poem to life ...

That salt air in your veins and mist on you face ...ah a love of the sea in the seafaring man...and the woman he leaves behind knows is a love she can never conquor...simply support. What a terrific visual, Fee....but it doesn;t stop there...such sensual appeal.

Blimey, I can rock with this one... can't I just!! :)) It brings out all that is John Fowles and the French Lieutenant's Woman in me... and I sure can get into any hint of nautical drama in the most Kate Winslet fashion!! Yes, yes... there I am on that Lyme Regis seawall... can see it now... need to grow me hair another six inches, though... TOTALLY absorbed into this one, Pops... and, as Susan says, it is soooooooooo you!! Tender and yet unabaiting. Swoooooooooooon....!! :)) But... I will be strong!! LOL Kaptain's K xx

Fee

Your love and affinity for the sea is as plain as a pikestaff in this compelling pen..

I could envision the opening scenes of the great Meryl Streep film " .. The French Lieutenant's Woman " !

I love your works about the sea, Felix...they are refreshing and strong! As in this one, there is strength within not only him, but his maiden as well.
