Everything is Growing Old

There’s a battered old six string

Sitting by the old wood stove

Right next to my old dog

He’s too damn old to rove

There’s my old pair of cowboy boots

My old black Stetson hat

Old books on the bookshelf

The old chair where she once sat

I sip my tea from an old chipped mug

On my old desk stained with time

Look down at these old hands

Are those old wrinkles really mine

No, not much new in this old place

Even the tears on my cheeks are old

Finish my tea head for our old bed

Lost love’s stories growing old.

Hey-you are so right htings do become old and even my shoes too. Just about anything and everything grows old. It is so amazing that we as writers can write about anything and everything.

I think if things are going well, I don't mind those extra wrinkles.
When times are stressful, I feel their weight on my skeleton, for sure...

We cannot stop time, but can live through the memories, good and bad, time and time again. You are as young as you feel if you want to be and I think, deep down, you have a wonderfully youthful spirit! Lovely poem Fee, that reminds us we should savour every second. Love Panda :)

I don't mind growing old..indeed it has been a GROWING and THAT'S what makes it a blessing..just think what those wrinkles would say..there's history imprinted within each one..I'd say mostly good..wouldn't you?

Profound piece Fee..

an introspective write, Felix, sad and haunting. Don't many of us feel that way at times; but I pop out of it shortly!
*Are those old wrinkles really mine*
I love it!

Aging is always on the horizon it is a time of transitions, the poem is sad for when left alone it seems to be so sad. I agree with Robert on this one. Nice expressions....

Thank you,
Joselyn

though i completely understand the intent of this poem, don't look at aging as becoming old, look at it as growing young with discovery and wisdom ...

Old stories still keep us warm with the love we all share. You aren't old Fee...you're waiting for your second wind.

I'll be gone for a while...to Florida to a wedding. Keep the faith and may all positive energies come your way.

Love,
Susan

*adding my applause, Fee* This is exceptional work; we all age, some gracefully, some not so...well done!

(clapping) this is a great piece, Fee. It's sad, yes, but it's not overly done so as to be 'sappy-sad' -- your readers can and will relate. Excellent piece and, again, I applaud you.
Love,
CJ
p.s. you aren't old
