Bride of Avalon
White stallion gallops ‘cross yon moor
As lighting, red as blood, assaults the sky
Wee woman child Lendisa from the loins of king and queen
Grips his mane held tight with fear-streaked cry
Tears fill her eyes and blind her sight
She craves the comfort of her lover’s arm
In a laced silk frock soaked with rain and tears
She races the wind to escape a tyrant’s harm
Behind the lass looms the castle’s gloom
The Black Knight sits upon his regal throne
Watching from his mountain crest
Recaling his Queen’s deathbed vow alone
Twas to succor and defend the child to the end
Thus twas made ‘gainst the nature of his blackened mind
Sips his mead and contemplates life now forever changed
For he knows in Avalon what she will find
Teardrops from his iced cube eyes descend
In his mind he sees her ride the wind to escape
For Princess knows not of her true love’s demise
Orders given for Black Knight’s domain to shape
Now, near a fresh grave the king’s comrades wait
They will return Princess Lendisa to his castle keep
Tonight to be wed and crowned Queen of Avalon…
Only in secret for her lover’s soul she’ll weep
