This is a little longer then my usual write but I do so love Christmas and now that I am getting ready to put up the outside lights before the snow comes I am getting in the spirit so have to share, sorry for the humbuggers in the audience. LOL

Christmas Spirit In A Plastic Box

This morning I dug out the plastic containers

You know the ones I mean

You find them at the local Walmart

In shades of blue and green

The ones you pack the seasons in

Each holiday’s special memories

I’m opening the one marked Christmas

As I get down on my knees

There’s the ragged set of lights

The first ones we ever had

Most of them don’t work anymore

But they came from my Dad

The tattered wreath Aunt Bea made

Now just some bits of green and red

One year you wore it round your neck

Laughing when you came to bed

There are the ornaments the girls made

Each, a special kiss of love divine

Couldn’t bear to part with even one

They were yours and they were mine

There’s the manger that your Mom loved

Nicked and scratched over the years

God bless when she sees it set up

She wipes away her happy tears

There are stacks of old Christmas cards

Wrapped secure in elastic bands

A true time capsule of history

Written in tender loving hands

Now the Christmas spirit grips my heartstrings

Now I can say to heck with all that’s wrong

These plastic boxes hold the love of generations

The love of family ever strong

"Christmas Spirit In A Plastic Box"
Oh Felix~heartfelt....Loved this poem and message it rendered!
Ahh, yes just ready for Christmas too.
You are right, you can't part with one single familia (treasured trinket) tattered and all. Can you believe I have little Ragedy Andy...my grandmother made when I was a kid, (I still have it), daughter played with (as tiny as it is) and it also comes out for Christmas...I played with it every year as a little tyke and always tried to take it with me every Christmas (it had to get put up). Granny is gone....but I have that precious (little Ragedy Andy) she made with me now (justa waitin' 2jump out of the plastic2!)...Ahh, such splendid memories. Have a fantastic, beautiful, and loving spirit filled Christmas Felix and thank you 4allowing me to take a pre-Christmas dream and break.

If we only knew what the stories were in some of the decorations that have been handed down from year to year. My Christmas tree candle holders came from Germany with Great Grandparents. It isn't the decor, but the love that is in them that counts. Your poem made me want to start on my decorating. May I be the first to tell you Merry Christmas to you and your family? Karen

Fee, I adore the spirit and the celebration of the season and all the memoried uncovered year after year. My kids will never be too old for lights and when they are, I'll do it just for the neighbor children...
Delightful!

MWAHSSSSSS XXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOXXXXXXXXXX. I thought only ME did this!!! How great is that? I have a theory (just thought of!) that all our subliminal life is tied into the successive "diggings out" of all the old trimmings that year-on-year take us back to the Manager of our hearts and souls. Can you see me peeking in at your windows, watching you, my moon-face reflecting in the baubles?? Cos that is just how your write made me feel... I WAS RIGHT THERE! And I recognise those bloody lights that don't work and the faded and tatty crepe paper garlands from way-back-when oh so well. FANTASTIC write, Pops, that had me smelling the pine needles and satsumas and cloves. Makes me feel that my family is your family, which in a way IS the spirit of Christmas, init?? BTW... Where you bin?? I ain't bin around much either... LOL Krackers Kate xx

You've captured the true essence of Christmas in this poem. I also find Christmas to be an exciting time of year and don't understand people who claim to hate it or find it depressing. The only thing that saddens me at this time is that I'm so far away from my family and those I'd love to spend this Christmas with.
Thanks for sharing

That is Christmas, the love of a family. That's how it all began that's how it should be. And I'm glad you have a manger. Too many have only trees. Victor

Some of the stores and shopping centers arew putting back the Christmas Symbols that they had not used in a couple of years. It seemed they got our emails that we would shop only where Christmas season is displayed and not happy holidays but Merry Christmas. Even Wal-Mart succumbed. You can't take Christ out of Christmas that is what the season is all about, like it or not. Great write fee

I haven't had Christmas since my father died. One year I was in New Orleans working and Florida etc. I have the plastic boxes full of ornaments but being on a traveling circuit for managers...I didn't take them with me. This year will be different and I'm going to put everuthing up after Thanksgiving.I will remember your poem then too.

Thanks and Love,
susan

Love this, Felix. You have me wanting to pull out MY plastic containers. Little early here, 'tho...trees still mostly green-leafed.
I'm always the happiest kid when I decorate for Christmas.

How true your words ring:
"Now the Christmas spirit grips my heartstrings
Now I can say to heck with all that’s wrong..."
Thank you for this!
