I played guitar and sang at a family house party the other night, my Aunt Annie who is 87 sat beside me and tapped her fingers, sang along and seemed to enjoy the songs. When I played an old war song called "The Soldier's Last Letter" I saw the tears roll down her cheek and my heart ached for all of the seniors who don't have someone out there who cares. If you have a mother, father, uncle aunt or even just a family friend who is a senior go out to see them today and give them a hug. Maybe it is time that we should have a National Hug A Seniors Day.
Auntie’s Song
She sits there smiling
Lost in his songs
Eighty some years
Of rights and wrongs
Lived through wars
Lost loves known
Watched her family
As they’ve grown
The song he sings
Is from the past
His guitar pulls
Heartstrings fast
In the key of D
She sheds a tear
Remembering all
She once held dear
He finishes up
Lays the guitar aside
Kisses her cheek
Love deep inside!

Such a tender write dear Fee, you capture the compassion in your heart brilliantly...it's so easy to forget that they had young hearts once that still beat as strong even though the body may be frail. I love the respect in this, love Panda :)

Such a touching song for her. You need to have it put on a card for her for Christmas. It would be the best present she could get. Your love for your family shines through in this one. You should have told us to have a tissue ready. I too try to urge everyone to visit their aging family and really listen to them. I too was teary eyed when reading this one. Karen
Aunt Annie can add to ther folk lore of yesterday so abundantly. We need to get tese in writing for our grand children too. You did a fine job in sharing her wisdom Fee.
