I am not one for long poems and avoid as much as I can but this poem came to me upon waking at four in the morning and was too strong to resist but due to length I broke it down into two parts...

Lost Christmas Child

(Part I)  by Felix L. Perry

Snow fell silent on the forest

Of juniper fir and spruce

Weighing heavy on the branches

Like eider on a winter goose

The temperature near freezing

The child paid no never mind

His spirit warmed his heart

Searching for what he may find

Tiny footprints marked his passing

His sweet voice a carol sang

Oh Holy Night, oh Silent Night

As far off church bells rang

He’d been told of a babe in a manger

Under the brightest guiding star

Tonight he would go to find him

If it took him near or far

Two teddy bears clutched in tiny arms

One for the newborn baby king

He heard that all the others

Special presents they would bring

The winds picked up close to midnight

The temperature began to fall

In his bathrobes and his slippers

He never cried a tear at all

Way to keep Christmas in the right perspective. I saw part II, but I thought that I would read part I first. A great read and can't wait to read the next. Thanks. Jim

One must wait for the second part, but already I can say that this will be a sweet poem...sad? Who knows. Reminds me of the girl who sold matches somehow, though that had nothing to do with Christmas if I recall correctly. Victor

This is beautiful. The innocence of a small child bringing a gift to the Christ-child. I love the imagery you created here.

A few line stood out for me:

"Snow fell silent on the forest"
Such a simple line and yet I can see this in my minds eye.
The stillness of the forest as snow blankets it's floor.

"Tiny footprints marked his passing
His sweet voice a carol sang
Oh Holy Night, oh Silent Night
As far off church bells rang"

What a lovely portrait of a child.
I just loved this. More please!
Be well,
Penny
