Just reminiscing a bit about the old days...

Poem Artwork

So tell me about the old days poppy

Tell me of when you aunties and uncles

Were just little girls and boys

Did you have Santa Claus back then poppy

Did he bring lots and lots of toys?

Her words pushed me back into a memory

Of the old days now long past

Of midnight mass and warm meat pies

When things were made to last

Of the smell of fir trees in the house

Real eggnog in a mug

Mom and dad loving each of us

Each night a kiss and hug

I heard carols singing in my head

Neighbors dropping by

Scrams of joy on Christmas morning

Unwrapping presents, i can see it in my eye

Then dressing up in Sunday best

Mom and dad with nine kids in tow

Mom struggling with my cowlick hair

Off to Father Pepper’s church we’d go

Then afterwards a turkey dinner

In a woodstove slowly cooked

No one was ever hungry that day

Not one thing overlooked

And when the day was finally over

Girls with dolls with rubber heads

Boys clutching trucks or dinkie toys

Mother tucked us safely in our beds

Poppy i think i loved your christmas too!

Hello Bro,

I remember one xmas when you and I went to a christmas party at a church. We didn't belong to that church. I think the partyk was for less well to do kids in the neighbourhood. I might have been 10. They had gifts for everyone, and games for gifts. I got a space ship and a robot that were battery operated. That was one of my best christmases as a kid. I don't remember what you got. Thanks for taking me.

Love ya bro,

John

Christmas really meant something to children back then, now it is more about draining our pocketbooks and "I want, I want" and "what are you going to get me." Santa left us each one "special" gift(my favorite ever, was a microscope)and the rest of our gifts came from our parents and relatives and were things like new underwear, toothbrush, fancy hairbrush with a matching mirror, new blouse, dress or skirt, marbles, jacks and perhaps a board game that was addressed to all 4 of us. Our stocking had apples, oranges, tangerines, nuts, chocolate coins and a candy cane or two. There was family and food, homemade cookies, egg nog, hot cider and the telling of "The Christmas Story" so that we would never forget what we were really celebrating. My favorite part of Christmas was being together with all my cousins and it is those memories that still mean the most to me. Thank you for sparking all those warm and fuzzy memories, Felix. I hope that the children of today will have such warm memories when they are grandparents.
Take care,
Sherry

Awww Fee this is so precious. It reminded me of when I was in my preteens in upper Michigan, and we went around and sang Christmas Carols and went to Midnight Mass. And weren't those Christmas turkey dinners special? They were made with care and love, and you are so right too, no one that day was hungry.

I also love the picture here too, of the tree neatly decorated, with the garland all around it.

Thank you Fee for the memories.

Merry Christmas Fee, to you and your family and loved ones, and a very Happy New Year too.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

This is well done FEE wonderful for the Season. The poetic voices in this executed well. I loved Christmas as a Child even more as an adult I found the true meaning. For Children it is a wonderful time of year.
Merry Christmas FEE To you and yours,

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
