The Currency of Sea Shells

She sells sea shells down by the sea side... old nursery rhyme or somthing was playing in my head when I wrote this...

The Currency of Shells

 

 

Waves croon sad songs of loss

Wash my face with mists of brine

Mix freely with the salty tears


That no reason can define

 

Kneel in the early moonlight

Wet sand against bare skin

I pick up a pearl white memory

As I wonder where she's been

 

Seashells were our currency

When love used to draw us here

Trading sea treasures for kisses

Once more I’d love to hold her near

 

So with my pocket full of treasure

As the ocean sings our lullaby

In dthose dreams I’ll  still trade seashells

In those dreams I’ll never cry!

Beautiful art for this one I love the purity of the white shells on the beach washed over.... The poem is excellent FEE!

Yes I remember that little Rhyme, used to have trouble getting my tongue around that one... :)

Memories and dreams of precious things, of times when all was well and the world was at peace, and happiness reigned..
Its nice to reflect on these things, helps us get through the mire of life we are confronted with these days.

This poem is as soothing as the sound of waves lapping the shore, quieting both body and soul. When I was a child, my family had a beach house and I would spend my early mornings walking along the shore, at low tide, collecting beautiful shells; they were indeed my treasures.
