Sometimes the almost happened are as sweet a memory of the past as the ones that did happen...

Oh Sweet Agony

Like a shifting cloud here then gone

a glimpse of billowed heaven

never lasted very long

Little teeny hopes of might have been

held in dreams of longing

like I’d never seen

Drifting with the tide we found a moment

hung together through a storm

too late and then it went

Tongue tasted lips of clinging heat

wanton desire like the wind

following the drummer’s beat

A dancing field of blooming clover

fevered skin to fevered skin

smiling singing “Roll me over…”

Ah sweet the day that might have been

you and I held love within

now only memories to hold in glory

oh sweet agony is sin

Yes cuz, we always want to remember the special moments in our lives, but some of us are lucky to have the most special moments here in the presents. Beautiful.

I always love the way male poets (for the most part) write about relationships, and memoirs of missing bits of love in their lifes. Why don't women write that way? . . .because we're always working! (smile). . . seriously, I love reading "the softer side" of romantic-based poetry by all you guys here in "the den."

Can really get with this today, Pops, as it has been 15 degrees and the steely sunlight glinting off the sea has made all life and presence round the coast just sooooooo surreal and fizzing with expectation and surprise. Bittersweet aching in this which is like a perpetual carrot-on-a-stick. Even just the sniff of another such encounter would be worth the subsequent agony. For me, this is a real mermaid write today. Bet you've still got her silver scales on your slippery fingers! Love it! TY Kate xx

The imagery and emotions in this one is outstanding. I like the change in format too. As I read this, I felt as if I was reading a flashback in a romance novel. Awesome job, Fee.

Ah Fee...this is AWESOME and the emotion, agony and alloofness of one unto another is a chapter from one of your novels yet to be written. My friend, my sweet Fee...save this for the new novel you have experienced with this poem.

Susan

I think that for the most part, the fantasy exceeds the event, or so it has been for me. All but a few times, the fantasies that I made reality have paled against my own complex erotic thoughts. The memories of "what might have been" are never tarnished by reality and they give us a sweet dream that we can carry with us always, and a safe place to retreat to when our reality becomes rough or overwhelming. Nice write!
Take care,
Sherry

Ahhh, Fee, we are each haunted by thoughts of "might have beens" ... somehow, I think the thoughts, themselves, are more erotic than if they had actually happened. An excellent write about it.

CJ
