Poem Artwork

The Folded Flag

That folded flag that once draped the box that took him home; sits now on a mantel piece beside a picture of him in uniform

The man comes on the TV says they’re bringing all our soldiers home; too bad they hadn’t thought of that six years ago that morn

A sad eyed mother stands beside a slab of granite; putting fresh flowers on her little hero’s resting place

Somewhere a young bride rocks her daughter to sleep; as she does she cries once more at her bed’s empty space

A veteran salutes the flag that’s lowered as a sign of respect; for all the comrades who have fallen under fire

Another president reads a prepared speech; reaching the point that humanity just accepts that he’s a liar

The only truth is in that flag that draped those boxes sent back home

Is a country’s pride worth the cost of a war for reasons still unknown.

Yes Felix, no truer words are spoken. It is sad and we wonder how many more will give their lives, how many more tears will be shed by the wives and Parents of those brave young people.

Thank you , Love your Cuz, Rose XOXO

This veteran wasn't offended, can't be offended by words remembering the comrades in Arlington and other fields, and, most important of all, those many wars MIAs unaccounted for to this date.
Thank for showing your respect.

Such a sad write, because it is full of truth. War terrifies me, as do the "leaders" of the countries. I don't think they know if their coming or going half the time. A worthwhile and timely write Fee.
Hugs, Laura

If I may, I would like to clarify one point that was brought to my attention after this poem was posted. I support and have nothing but respect for all the soldiers, sailors and seamen of the US, Canada, and other allied countries for the sacrifices and risks they take daily in the fight against terrorism. I have a deep and real respect for the American people and the pride they have in their flag. I do have grave doubts about the actual policies of this war and what is the real expected outcome for the cost in life that is being paid. If I offended anyone or my words seem harsh I can only say I speak what I feel and I do not claim to know the answers either. Felix

Felix nothing is worth the loss of life, and much less the pride of a country, unfortunately, maybe even fortunately, many of us do not make the decisions to send the troops into war, sadly this trajedy is left in the memories of the families who have to visit and or place thought, on their loss.

All we are left with is the reality of a president who places his pride and ego before them....

May God Bless ALL the troops who place their lives in danger for us......I pray this war ends soon....

An exceptional poetic display.....

love and peace my friend.....

This is one heck of a poem of patriotism, giving, bravery, love and loss. You took my heart with this one Fee. There isn't a dry eye arounf this cottahe where I live. The politics of war cost too much for the common man to give anymore.
With love,
Susan
