As June approaches so does my roll call of summer guests returning to dear old Nova Scotia for a taste of what life should be...

Poem Artwork

Hear the Ocean A Calling

The brine scents the evening mist

A sweet salt taste of ocean spray

Waves bring in so many treasures

Sea birds singing songs to those away

Oh heart, dear heart return again

To your Atlantic paradise shore

Won’t you come home again?

Ne’er to roam from here no more

The waves will sing you a welcome

You’ll smell salt cod on the stove

Home brew beer chilled in a cellar

Why would you ever want to rove?

Home folks greet you at the door

Hugs for friends and strangers too

Down here its all are welcome

No matter what you say or do

Ships passing in the harbour

Blow their horns as if to say

Hello all ye from Halifax

I hope you all are well today

So all you transplanted Easterners

Pack your sea bags come on down

Come on home to the Maritimes

Turn upside down your city frown.

The ocean is calling me right there to your front door.

This was beautiful, Fee. I love the warm feeling I get from this. I was always a summer person, all welcoming friends, family and guests to my house. Nova Scotia sounds like a great place to live.

~hugs~

Does sound really nice. I miss the shore sometimes, yet even Myrtle Beach South Caronlina doesn't appear as pretty as the ocean looks up there. After Surgery I will at least try to make it down south for some R&R and enjoy the sand this fall, which is always nicer the summer in the south, but I would tend to think that northern shores would be great for southerns. Need passports now to cross over though don't we. No sneaking up in the middle of the night I guess...lol...Lady J

I could never live anywhere else but near the ocean...There's just something about everything you just described...

Within fifteen minutes I am on the Atlantic shores and in five I can relax, fishing on the St. Johns...and in the evening I retreat to the woods...The only thing I'm missing now...is the mountains!
Enjoyed the expression of this write!
Love and Peace~

I am sitting here watching The Pirates of the Carribean and this poem fits perfectly with the tone. I can smeel the sea air and the bottles of rum!

Halifax, Saint John and a few more, been there, get slapped by a storm once or twice, but when on land, the call of the seas was like the call of the wild to the wolf.
Too old now and so many places to visit again....
Thanks for bringing memories back.

Fee,
My family had a friend with whom we've lost touch, and he may very well be deceased, who would travel from Ohio to Nova Scotia, every summer. I've never had the chance to go there, but your poem has made me long for a trip. Some say that I live in paradise, along the Gulf Coast in Texas, but the summers are too hot and the hurricane threat is too plentiful. I miss the northern summers, very much.
I loved this poem; it is a well written ode to the region and a wonderful welcome for those who will visit.
Thank you,
Jill

Fee,
Your poem has certainly hit home with me during My past few days here in Maine. I love this town (Portland) and all it's coastal charm. I'm really considering making this a new home...at least for the summers...
