Trout Pond

By: Felix Perry

The waters still not frozen on Trout Pond

And the ground wears a mere trace of snow

Like an old ladies flimsy threadbare nightgown

Ashamed that its intimacy may show

The trees also stand naked like old strippers

Denuded of their warm colors of fall

If it weren’t for the beavers on Trout Pond

They’d surely have no audience at all

In the air a vague scent of wood smoke

Someone warming up hearth and home

I stand there alone on the bank of Trout Pond

Wishing somehow I didn’t feel so alone

I pull up my collar against the North Wind

That suddenly must have its bitter say

Turn my back on the humility of Trout Pond

Time to face another new day…

The metaphoric "Old ladies, Old strippers, and Beavers" had me howling you dirty old man.
How could you feel alone with all that female company?

You put me right there, Fee....what a beautiful spot! Peaceful and quiet....surrounded by nature....is there anything more beautiful?

I would find enjoyment on Trout Pond, just as I do when I, always alone, visit my beach & ocean...Ed

Well, well, Felix. Why do I have the distinct impression that you are saying much more than this poem appears to let on, and doing it with such superlatively redolent ease. I really enjoyed the tone and imagery in this one. A fine pen you've put us in... er, um... I mean put in for us!

You capture the sense of intimacy and isolation so very well, Felix, and conjure the vulnerability with such heart-warming visuals. Love the picture - looks like here at home in Dorset, literally over the road from me! :)) Many blessings now and in the year ahead. Have a good one! :)) xx

Fee, this is no doubt one of your best writings, so visually rich, so easy to read, but full of truths about life.

Cheers and Happy New Year,
Dan

Felix, this is a powerful view of self and the often stark views and reality of what a shaper of character nature can be. With observation and desire to learn, she's a powerful mentor. Humility is what you have poetically framed in this beautiful poetry. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

Fee, this one left me WANTING. Wanting for more verses, wanting to know "THE REST OF THE STORY" as Mr. Harvey would have put it. Wanting to know what that "New Day" brought with it. Nicely done.

Thanks Dick

The dead of winter can truly make one feel all alone, but even at places like Trout Pond, Spring and New Life, will soon return.
