Omens In The Dark

I wrote this several years ago long before the Russians invaded the Ukaraine but believe it is so applicable today...

 Omens in the Dark

I fear there’s a dark black, shade of hopelessness

Somehow my heart feels a depressed gun metal gray

Drab olive camo is the chosen tint of our world leaders

Who with open mouths have so very little they can say

Soon in the distance war drums will beat a call to arms

Over politician’s same old rhetoric of lying lines so lame

Over the horizon, the thunder’s crash like marching brass

Though vile the devils’ dance will harmonize once again

Stare out over the battlefield of youth’s stolen dreams

Do you see a loved one’s name on a fresh white cross

While Generals wash their hands of the blood stains

After all, they’ll just say: “They were an acceptable loss.”

But their words won’t dry a mother’s endless tears

Nor a folded flag take away a father’s vacant eye

No, an official letter won’t give a young wife courage

To explain to her children why daddy had to die!

No Felix there is no excuse in the world large enough and bold enough to warrant the end of one life, let alone, thousands, I figured in today's age, we would have become more human, but I an see the de-humanization of society is still alive and well in the world. Ignorance still reigns, but aside empathy compassion and enduring love, it is almost bearable,

Thanks for reminding us. And Memorial day should be more than just first summer outings and barbecue like it is for most. War is being diminished worldwide, even though there are more wars going on right now than one can grass, something like 16. But you are right about Russia with a leader hell-bent on winning his private war like so many others have done before.

But they won't read your poetry. They will shout patriotic words to get the crowd stirred up so that many young people will sign up to go into the meat grinder as if it were a path to glory.

A very moving piece Fee, which clearly
Reveals the horrors of war…
Surely in 2022 we could have a more
human and compassionate way of solving our
world’s problems…
