The slightest of rain drops
that fall to the ground
rival the horror
that echoes all around.
in his mind the silence
saves him from the sounds
of gunshots and mortar fire
and the pain that abounds
In those few moments of stillness
where his life is lived
he thinks of you
and his beauty is found.
The slightest hint of news
that comes across
chills you to the bone
and then you are lost
in your fear
that he has paid the ultimate cost
in this world at war
where our souls have been tossed
in those moments of your worry
is when he can feel you give
your all to him
and he knows he's not lost.

I will give this to Mariah and it will ease her worry. I think it will also help all the thousands of others who fret when they don't hear from their loved ones InIraq...for days. I've watched the hopelessness my own daughter feels when she has no word from Stephen for days.
