A stunning reminder that so many survivors of war, who never forget their comrades who they lost in battle, end up being forgotten. Very poignant.
Until they couldn't anymore, my mother and father always attended Memorial Day services in the early morning at Riverside Cemetery on the Black River where they both were born, lost friends during World War II that they never mentioned. I probably would've attended those ceremonies that my uncle participated in until he disappeared in 1962, a PTSD casualty of World War II like another uncle of mine.
