the death of my mother
It can creep into a room
after an uneventful night.
It can come on a Monday
in early morning light.
It can come to the dreamer
with visions of home
it will come regardless of
how deeply you are loved,
or years of devotion
you are owed.
It can come silently,
without a fuss;
to the beat of a heart,
to the exhale of a breath.
It may come softly,
like a kiss,
to rescue the one
who waits for it.
