That Night
I disappearred that night
leaving my broken body on the floor,
journeying to a different,
protected place
while split bones were
subdued with a plate.
In a bubble of darkness
filling the space
I floated in that fluid
and was erased.
Those six days and nights
in a womb of sightless space
the pain kept me unconscious
until I awoke to searing pain
of time and place.
A wildfire spreading
throughout my pores
until pain was breath
and I was no more.
What happens when you will
is stripped from you,
what happens to your heart?
Strangers dictating my fate
as I lay powerless
on a cart.
I fell into a pool of tremors,
involuntary agitation.
As shadows fell,
I also fell,
and fell and fell,
never well again.
No longer able
to speak or write or drive,
my life was minimized.
I accept the actual,
not what is told to me.
In rehabs, hospital hallways,
I review what has occurred
and promise
to re-find me.
