Barbed Mire

Make me a promise
And I’ll make you smile
Wish for things to be
And offer me guile

Caress my frailty
And I’ll make you grin
Pretend to be safe
And I’ll let you in

Set my heart afire
And I’ll shy away
Wounded and unsure
And yet here I stay

Continue anon
And I’ll be no more
Aware and awash
Yet empty at core

empty at core
even the score...be hurt some more
promises, promises
unkept and poor
knees to the floor...hard to ignore
promises, promises
heard them before
open the door...beguiled no more
promises, promises
forevermore
